中國的坐具文化有著漫長的發展歷史，商周時期（公元前1600—公元前256年），从古人席地而坐，到高足家具全面取代矮型家具，在大雅之堂上，使用的坐具往往更高級和更講究，典型家具代表有交椅、官帽椅、禅椅。

China's seating culture has a long history of development. During the Shang and Zhou dynasties (1600 BC–256 BC), people sat on the ground. Later, high-legged furniture completely replaced low-style furniture. In formal and elegant settings, the seating used tended to be more refined and elaborate. Representative examples of such furniture include the folding chair, the official's hat chair, and the meditation chair.
